Bill has a long history in the planning profession spanning over 20 years, including study and local government experience. He enjoys the relationship aspects of planning and guiding peoples plans and aspirations into reality. He enjoys the relative immediacy of resource consents and seeing the tangible developments throughout the community.
He has a Bachelor of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and a Graduate Certificate in Social Science from Lincoln University with a strong focus on planning papers. Part of Bill’s degree involved a semester at California State University Sacramento where he lived for eight months. This ignited his passion for travelling and he has since travelled back to the US three times. He has also travelled to India, Singapore, Fiji, Tonga, New Caledonia and Australia. His recent two week adventure down NZ’s SI west coast and up the east coast reminded him just how stunningly beautiful NZ and its people are. He is looking forward to his next adventure to Alaska in the near future.
His interest in planning stems from a natural interest in the environment and the outdoor backcountry. He spent four years working in recreation policy and planning at PNCC, followed by 13 years resource management planning at MDC and then the construction industry grabbed him for 18 months, before being drawn back into the planning profession.
Bill is married and has three children and two grandchildren, whom he loves dearly and spends a large part of his free time enjoying and helping out. He enjoys the outdoors such as a picnic at the beach or a bush walk. He is delighted to have raised his family in the Manawatu, which he considers to be a great place to raise a family with the bush and beaches in close proximity and other amenities within easy access. Bill’s passion is directed towards outdoor pursuits such as camping in NZ’s bush/beaches and spending time with family and friends, gardening and travelling.
